When Life Knocks You Down, Greenlight Yourself Anyway
Why Your Freedom Isn’t Just for You—It’s the Permission Slip for Someone Else
Hey, it’s Jerrica.
This week, life kicked my ass. Not a cute “oops, spilled my coffee” kind of week, but the kind that makes you question everything you’re building. If you read my Sinners recap, you know I was already deep in my feelings. Grief, inspiration, the weight of trying to make something happen when everything feels heavy.
But these are the moments that remind me why I greenlight myself in the first place. It’s always been about freedom. Freedom with my time so I can create when inspiration hits, not just when someone else says so. Freedom with my creativity so I don’t have to shrink my ideas to fit someone else’s box. Freedom with my money so I can make what I want and own what I build.
Most of you reading this are in a 9-5 just like me. Some days you feel stuck. Some days you wonder if it’s ever going to be your turn. I see you. I’m you. It’s not easy to do both. But you keep going because that fire in you is bigger than your current situation.
Today I saw a tweet:

Simple. True. Your dream might start with you, but the second you act on it, you become living proof for somebody else. That’s what I hold on to. Then, as if I needed another reminder, I spotted a license plate that said “live free or die.” The universe is not subtle.
So if you’re tired or doubting or feeling stuck, this is for you.
Here’s what’s inside this issue:

WHY YOU GREENLIGHT YOURSELF WHEN LIFE ISN’T CUTE
Everyone sees the finished product, the wins, the launch day. They don’t always see the struggle, the late nights, the days when you want to quit. So why do we keep choosing this path?
Because your creativity deserves to breathe, not be boxed in
Because your voice matters, even if it shakes
Because every time you step out for yourself, you make it safer for someone else to do it too
When you greenlight yourself, you show people what’s possible.
THE GREENLIGHT GAMEPLAN: HOW TO KEEP GOING (EVEN ON THE HARD DAYS)
• Write down your why
Put it somewhere you’ll see every day. Your wall, your phone, your mirror. When things get tough, remind yourself what you’re fighting for. Mine is freedom. What’s yours?
• Build in public
Share your process, even when it’s messy. Your journey is a roadmap for someone else who needs to see what’s possible. And you’ll build a community of people rooting for you.
• Connect with people on the same path
Find your community. If you’re stuck or struggling, hit reply and tell me about it. You are not alone here.
Your Takeaways
• You can get knocked down and still get up and build again
• Every step you take toward your dream sets someone else free too
• Your freedom is someone else’s permission slip
If you needed a sign, this is it
