Hey, it’s Jerrica.

Let me put you on to something: Issa Rae’s journey from YouTube sketch queen to Emmy-nominated showrunner is the ultimate greenlight blueprint. She didn’t wait for big networks. She built her brand, honed her voice, and launched Insecure on her own terms. That’s the energy we’re on this week. I want that and if you’re here chances are YOU want that too. So let’s build it…

Whether you’re leveling up your personal brand or drafting a pilot that gets noticed, there’s room for you to thrive.

What’s inside this issue:

1️⃣ Lessons from Issa Rae: How to leverage your personal story and process to attract your audience and collaborators.
2️⃣ Dual-Track Strategies: Tactical steps for your personal brand and your scripted content, no overwhelm, just focus.
3️⃣ Platform Strategy: Where to show up and how to tailor your content this week.

THE MAIN ATTRACTION

1️⃣ LESSONS FROM ISSA RAE

Before Insecure debuted, Issa was dropping episodes of Awkward Black Girl on YouTube, sharing BTS stories on Twitter, and connecting with fans one comment at a time. By the time HBO noticed, she had a built-in audience ready to tune in.

We want you to have the same so you can build a Hollywood optional career.

  • Authenticity over perfection: Share the quirks, flops, and wins so your audience roots for real.

  • Consistency breeds trust: New sketches every month, tweets every day, Stories every week.

  • Feedback loop: Listen to comments and fan edits to sharpen your scripts and characters.

2️⃣ DUAL-TRACK STRATEGIES

A. Personal Brand: Own Your Voice

Tier 1 – Share Your Process

  • Post ideas:

    • “Here’s the three tools I’m using to plan my week as a creator.”

    • “Lesson learned: how I turned a script note into a stronger scene.”

  • How to execute:

    • 2–3 process updates this week (notebook shots, 30-sec brainstorm clips, beat-sheet carousels).

    • Clear CTA: “What’s your go-to writing ritual? Hit reply and tell me!”

    • Repurpose: tweet → IG caption → LinkedIn post.

Tier 2 – Blend Work & You

  • Post ideas:

    • “I almost quit writing after my pilot got passed on—here’s why I kept going.”

    • “This moment inspired my main character: the time I locked myself out in pajamas.”

  • How to execute:

    • 3–4 sentence story + clear takeaway.

    • Set boundaries: know what you’ll share and what stays private.

    • Invite engagement: “What’s one moment that shifted your creative path? Reply!”

This week’s action: Pick one Tier 1 and one Tier 2 idea. Draft both, schedule them, and hit “publish” by Friday.

B. Scripted Content: From Logline to Feedback

  1. Greenlight Logline

    • Formula: When [inciting incident], [protagonist] must [goal], or else [stakes].

    • Keep it under 30 words.

  2. 5-Card Pilot Outline

    • Card 1: Ordinary world & protagonist’s want

    • Card 2: Inciting incident

    • Card 3: Midpoint twist

    • Card 4: Darkest moment

    • Card 5: Cliffhanger that demands “what’s next?”

  3. Draft & Read Aloud

    • Write a 5-page “table-read” of your key scene (inciting incident or twist).

    • Record yourself reading—note any stumbling points.

  4. Targeted Feedback

    • Share your logline + scene with two peers (one writer, one non-writer).

    • Ask: “What grabbed you first?” and “Where did you zone out?”

    • Tweak based on their notes.

This week’s action: Finalize your 30-word logline, map your 5 cards, and have your first feedback session by Friday.

3️⃣ PLATFORM STRATEGY: WHERE TO SHOW UP

  • Threads / X: Quick takes, polls, micro-clips of your process. Daily.

  • Instagram / TikTok: 30-sec “greenlight tip” videos, behind-the-scenes read-through. 3× this week.

  • LinkedIn: Long-form lessons and your logline + feedback ask. 1× this week.

  • YouTube: Narrative vlogs or script breakdowns—mix story with strategy. Aim for 1 video.
