The reminder I needed came from a 13 year old getting a haircut

I saw this video today.

There's this guy who walks around and cuts people's hair and hears their stories. He rolls up on a group of kids in Atlanta and they all recognize him, they're all asking him to cut their hair. And this little guy, maybe 13, walks over and goes "I really need it."

So he picks him.

This little boy in Atlanta, 13 years old, sits down and starts telling us how he stays true to himself. How he's going after his dreams. How he's trying to convince his older brother to stop chasing girls (I love him).

And then. This is where I cried.

He talked about his sister. His sister lost her friend to gun violence a few days ago.

And that got me thinking.

I'm still here.

I have to get to it. I have to go after my dreams with even more ambition and tact. I have to keep knocking on doors. Keep following up. Keep asking. Keep trying. No matter what.

A 13 year old in Atlanta was the reminder I needed to get up and get to it.

I hope you find those reminders too. Those little sparks of inspiration that show up when you need them most. If not, read this again. I've been doing The Artist's Way (Julia Cameron, if you know you know) and moments of clarity have been finding me in the best way. I'm in week 1. She calls it creative recovery. The morning journaling has taught me things about myself, my creativity, my ambition. Some things I already knew and forgot. Some things I'm learning for the first time.

But back to the little boy.

He reminded me of the importance of ambition.

I knew I wanted out of my small town in Florida when I was a little girl. In fact, I promised myself after college I'd never come back. And to this day I haven't.

There is so much going on in the world right now. So much noise. So much heaviness. And yet.

We're still here. We still get to build. We still get to dream. We still get to greenlight ourselves.

Which is why I'm launching my Kickstarter this week. I've been sitting on this project for way too long. And a 13 year old in Atlanta reminded me that sitting on it isn't an option anymore. His sister's friend doesn't get to launch anything. Bob (a story for another day) didn't get to marry the love of his life. We get to do go after our dreams. The world always keeps going whether you get to live your dreams. Time passes.

So do it.

I'll be right there with you.

More on the Kickstarter this week. Get ready.

Greenlight Yourself is where Hollywood meets the creator economy. Personal essays on Saturdays. Case studies on Wednesdays. Building the future of creator-led entertainment, one send at a time.

The Slate Planner drops soon-ish.

This is the exact tool I use to map every case study, essay, podcast episode, and vertical series inside Greenlight Yourself. It's how you turn one big idea into a repeatable universe of content you can actually ship.

Waitlist is still open. Get on it so you're first to buy when the doors open.

Tools you can use to Greenlight Yourself:

beehiiv — If you want an audience you actually own, this is the move. The newsletter lives here. The podcast will be here too.
Wispr Flow — For every joke and idea that hits on a long walk with my dog. Talk it in, it's written. Clutch when you're not at your desk. Every creative needs this.
Buffer — How I show up consistently on Threads, Instagram, and LinkedIn without being online daily.
Cal.com — Calendar management when you've got a thousand things on your plate. If you're greenlighting yourself with a 9-to-5, this is non-negotiable.
